Obituary of Joy Faye Richardson-Williams

Joy Faye Richardson-Williams, the daughter of Charles and Gertrude Harder Patterson, was born October 22, 1914 in South Dakota. She graduated from the Newton Senior High School. Joy was united in marriage to LeRoy Richardson in 1933. Joy and LeRoy owned and operated the SuperValu grocery in Monroe and Joy continued to run the store following LeRoy's death in 1955. In 1966, Joy married Wayne Williams and they made their home in Monroe. She worked for Younkers until her retirement. Joy loved her family and took great pride in her grandchildren. Joy died on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at her home in Cedar Rapids. She was 95 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy; her husband, Wayne in 1996; her two brothers and three sisters. Those left to honor Joy's memory include her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Alice Richardson of Newton and Dennis and Mary Richardson of Cedar Rapids; her six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. The family will greet friends at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home from 1:00 -2:30 p.m. Sunday. Private family services will be at a later date. Memorials may be designated in Joy's name to the Haiti Relief Fund and may be left at the funeral home.
